Food, Beverage, and Supplement Warning Letters

FDA Warning Letters: Food, Beverage, and Dietary Supplements

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regularly issues warning letters to food, beverage, and dietary supplement manufacturers when it identifies significant violations of federal regulatory requirements.

These letters serve as formal notices that a company’s products, labeling, manufacturing practices, or marketing claims do not comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) or related regulations.

Warning letters are one of FDA’s primary enforcement tools. They are typically issued following inspections, product testing, adverse event investigations, or regulatory review of product labeling and promotional materials.

While a warning letter does not represent a final enforcement action, it signals that FDA has identified serious compliance concerns and expects prompt corrective action from the company involved.

For industry professionals, warning letters provide valuable insight into FDA’s current regulatory priorities and common compliance failures. Many warning letters involve issues such as undeclared allergens, unsafe or unapproved ingredients, improper dietary supplement claims, or violations of current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements.
