Recall Alert: Organic Moringa Leaf Powder

The product may be contaminated with salmonella bacterium

On November 12, organic moringa powder importer and packager Africa Imports issued a recall notice for its products dating back to June 5.

The recall notice was published on the FDA website. Following are details of the recall.

What Products

Voluntary recall of Africa Imports Organic Moringa Leaf Powder, packaged in 1-kilogram boxes and sold under the Africa Imports brand.

Why the Product Was Recalled

The product may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea and vomiting, and abdominal pain. Serious complications can include arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

Scope of Recall

The recall affects all Organic Moringa Leaf Powder purchased after June 5, 2025 (06/05/2025). The product was sold nationwide exclusively through the company’s website: africaimports.com.

Although this recall only includes the 1 kg box labeled “Organic Moringa Leaf Powder” the product was sold to many nutrient production facilities.

How It Was Detected

Africa Imports states it was informed that some moringa powder in the implicated lot tested positive for Salmonella and is recalling all product from that batch “out of an abundance of caution.”

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers who have purchased this product should Immediately stop using the product and dispose of it (do not eat, sell, or serve). Confirm disposal by replying to the recall email or contacting Africa Imports directly.

Identify downstream customers to notify them of the recall. You may include a copy of the recall notice in your communications.

Regulatory Context

The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is part of the broader FDA/CDC investigation into a Salmonella Richmond outbreak linked to a single contaminated moringa lot from Vallon Farmdirect in India.
